The Brookland to Fort Totten extension of the MBT opened in April 2022. The project website is https://mbt-forttotten.ddot.dc.gov. (Note, the old website https://www.metbranchtrail-forttotten.com redirects to this new site).
Riggs Road NE Cycletrack



The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) reissued a Notice of Intent for a two-way cycletrack on the south side of Riggs Road from 1st Place NE to South Dakota Avenue NE. DDOT will use part of the dedicated right-turn lane for the cycletrack. A shorter right-turn lane will remain. DDOT completed installation of the cycletrack in March 2025.

Fort Totten to Takoma Extension

Construction began summer 2023 and will be completed around 2025. Construction will be done in five phases.
As of November 2024, a new traffic light is now functional at McDonald Place and South Dakota Avenue NE.
