I don’t even know what to say. When throngs descended on Washington, DC, at the invitation of Donald J. Trump, to take over the Capitol to disrupt the electoral process.

Here’s some local coverage

  1. There were reports of 15 cars with Trump or MAGA stickers and paraphernalia having their tires slashed at Ft. Totten Station. Can’t say that I am disappointed or empathetic towards the car owners.

  2. There is a lot that can be said, but as a nation, we are still processing this event. I think the most useful thing to do is to combat those entities that thrive on presenting fake news and conspiracy theories.

First, I try to listen to a variety of news sources. What I have found is that the basic elements of each news report are similar, but the interpretation often differs. If the interpretations differ due to additional facts and not speculation, it becomes more trustworthy to me.

Second, it may be time to reconsider the FCC Fairness Doctrine of 1949. Basically, if an issue is not “straight news”, both sides of the issue must be presented. This doctrine was limited to broadcast news only, but maybe it should be expanded to all forms of electronic new presentation. I am no expert, so the following link is provided for your consideration:
