Topic: Rocketship Charter School Traffic Study
ANC 5A sent notice yesterday about a special meeting to discuss Rocketship Charter School’s traffic study. The school plans to open a campus at 3rd and Kennedy streets NE for the 2020-2021 school year. Comments on the school’s application to the DC Public Charter School Board are due September 16, 2019.

The September 10, 2019 Special ANC 5A Meeting failed to launch. At the outset, the ANC committed several unforced errors. First, a quorum wasn’t reached, public notification of the meeting was 1-day, and the ANC could not reschedule the meeting. Its 7-day advance public notification policy pushed the next meeting date beyond the charter school comment period deadline.
So, while I commend the commissioners who attended, and the Rocketship Charter School Staff for participating, the entire effort could not be deemed an official meeting – since the 7-day advance public meeting notification policy was unmet. We can do better.
