Five Guys to Fort Totten Square

Editor’s note 7/24/2014: We should have added the usual caveat that the brochure does not mean a lease has been signed. We’ve been told the developers have a letter of intent with Five Guys, not a signed lease just yet.

According to an updated brochure from JBGR (the retail arm of developer JBG), Five Guys will be joining Subway at Fort Totten Square on the corner of Riggs Road & Chillum Place NE. That space was to be occupied by Carolina Kitchen/TKO Burger before they pulled out. This addition leaves one vacant retail space between the Subway and the Five Guys, as well as the vacant space on the corner of 3rd Street & Riggs Road, to which the developers have been hoping to lure a coffee shop.

  1. I hope that #1 spot is a sit down restaurant with outdoor seating and #3 could be a beer and bar food type of place.

  2. having walmart is bad enough, but then carolina kitchen and tko pull out and are replaced with subway and five guys. guh. i’m happy that there’s development because what was there before was a blight, but it nothing i would actually go to is coming to this place. 😦

  3. We really need sit-down dining, that is not fast food/give guys. Small outdoor patio will be sufficient somewhere. Phase II looks like it will have larger retail spaces, but what is the time frame on that going to be?

    • H, it really depends. The developers are still negotiating with DC officials to buy the land and then the council will have to take up legislation to approve the sale. And after the sale, they’ll have to go through the large tract review process before they can start building anything. So it’s going to be some time before we see something at that site.
