  1. Good Afternoon, I attended the virtual meeting on May 30th. I have some general comments and questions below.

    South Dakota Ave Project

    Comment:

I have lived on South Dakota Ave for almost 40 years at the corner of SD and Jefferson. Additionally I grew up close to the SD and Vista intersection. Planning in this city is poorly done as traffic studies should be performed and shared early in a project.

    My opinion:

Bike lanes will not assist in making SD safer, they will just create more congestion on a main commuter thoroughfare.

The speed cameras have made a wonderful difference in traffic control. Red light cameras at the corner of SD and Ingraham and SD and Riggs are most needed. I watch from my porch as cars go  through the red light at SD and Ingraham.

While having parking available on SD sounds great but again would cause additional congestion and pollution.

    Reminder:

South Dakota Ave is a main resident and commuter thoroughfare as well as a snow emergency and evacuation route.

    Questions:

What are the plans for traffic around the new Aldi that is scheduled for Oct of 2024.?

A Park or recreational space was planned for South Dakota and Riggs near Food and Friends, what’s happening with that and how will traffic be handled.?

On the call it was mentioned that  some side streets would get speed bumps or other traffic calming devices if SD changes made. What happens to our alleys especially on the 5200 and 5300 blocks of SD which already get commuter traffic if an incident occurs on SD or just because it’s quicker. Our alleys are currently unsafe and are used daily by residents to park in our yards or to walk to and from our destinations.
